Things are looking Up...

Well, I have to say that yesterdays game for Arsenal couldn't have gone much better, beating the opposing team 5 - 0 is always going to be a good result. Ok, granted, the thrashing was against Derby who basically seem to be the whipping boys of the Premiership this season (unless your Newcastle, he he, I mock at thee) but hey, 5 - 0 is still 5 - 0.
Its a nice three points gained which keeps the Gunners sitting pretty at the top of the Table. Its still early days yet but this has been a really promising start to the Season thus far. Five wins and 1 draw in the Premiership and winning their first Champions League match in confident form. My optimism for the Season ahead is high to say the least.
A special shout out goes to Adebayor (pictured above) for his Hat Trick of goals that put last nights result beyond doubt. If he can keep that up on a regular basis (a man can dream) then I will be a happy chappy for a long time to come.

Sue was Right, Reed should pay more attention to his Kids...

Too think, how much property damage and general misery could have been saved if the Illuminati had simply taken their cues from a five (or is it more like ten now?...I forget) year old?

Alot!!

None of this shooting Hulk into space mischief. I mean, that rocket ALONE must has cost a pretty penny. All they needed was five dollars worth of chocolate along with the face of innocence and everything would be problem solved, no rampaging Hulk, just a well fed one.

Of course then Marvel wouldn't have a big Summer Crossover, or a very short one at any rate.

Ok Batman, I see how it works now...

So lets see, Hal Jordan can go around wiping peoples memories and its ok, but if Zatanna does it, its all...

"Bad Zee" *Slap Wrist* *General Scowling from Batman, much brooding (sulking)*

I call Double Standards!!

Hmph!!

...

Anyway, this panel does make me oddly compelled to read the rest of the Issue.

I'm mostly just curious as too how Batman didn't previously notice Hal zapping Mr/Mrs/Ms. Starr with a bright yellow(?), mind wiping ray. I'm also curious to see if Batman really is ok with Hal Jordan wiping his own memory without paying a whole lot of attention to what he's doing. I'm also curious as to whether or not Hal actually did/does this to himself on a regular basis, if he does the it sure does explain a few things.

I'm also curious as to whether or not its wise to show Jamie this panel.

I'm a curious fellow.

Money Barely Spent...

Well, having gotten past the injustice of having to wait an ENTIRE DAY longer than my American Brothers and Sisters to get my weekly Comics, I was able to pick up my stash today and while away a few hours after a hard day at work. As it happens I wont be whiling away all that many hours, in fact I think I only managed while away all of one, as this weeks pile was...well...not very big.

It seems to be an annoying aspect of this pass time of mine, one week I'll have hundreds of comics to pick up, the next, well, I'll barely have any. Its a scenario that has plagued me ever since the day I started buying more than one comic a month (oh disposable income...what would I do without you?). No matter what titles I buy, no matter what it is that interests me and my fickle tastes are for that month, I'll always...ALWAYS...end up with twenty one week, two the next.

Its hardly the end of the world, but, you know, its annoying. Especially since on light weeks my all too feeble will breaks beneath the pressure of my inherent greed and I always...ALWAYS...end up spending that extra money I shouldn't be spending on something else. I can not help myself.

I blame someone else.

*Frown*.

ANYWAY!!

As I was saying, not many titles this week, four to be exact, so their wasn't much competition when it comes to picking my favourite, and a favourite I do have (before I change my mind in about an hour I'm sure). Namely "Birds of Prey" for DC.

I admit, I was a little bit worried when I learned about the change of guard (in terms of writing anyway) on the Birds of Prey title. I always worry when someone new comes on board a title I enjoy, the pessimistic voice in my head demanding I assume the worst, that the stories I love are gone forever, I hate that voice. I was especially worried this time as, in all fairness to the talent in question, I hadn't really read anything by Tony Bedard before (at least, I don't think I have, I should ponder on that for a while) so I had nothing on which to gauge what should have been my hopeful expectations.

Yes, I was worried.

But now I feel I had no need to be. Based on this issue and last I am now hopeful of a continuing bright future for the Birds of Prey. Nothing of global significance really happened in this issue (which actually makes a nice change for a DC title, not everything needs to be a prelude to the End of the World!!) but it was purely entertaining none the less.

In recent years Huntress has become one of my favourite characters, particular in these very pages, and I've enjoyed seeing her evolve from "No Other Choice Option" to "Oracle's Number One Girl" (at least when Canary isn't around). Shes really developed nicely from being a side character in the Bat Franchise, brought up every now and then for Batman to scowl at in a disapproving manner, into a much more well rounded character. I like seeing character progression, I like to see someone striving to move themselves forward and evolve into something better (or worse as the case may be), I like seeing a characters perceptions and ideas about themselves and the world around them change based on their experiences. No-one stays the same forever, its nice to see that recognised in comics every now and then.

Plus, she kicks ass.

I approve.

*Nods*

Anyway...I'm pretty sure I was talking about Tony Bedard. He's gotten off to a good start on the series with a couple of stand alone issues and what I've seen is pretty solid. He has a nice grasp on the characters and while, in all fairness, some of the pacing mid way through this weeks issue was a little off, the stories have been entertaining unto themselves. He also seems to have a pretty good eye for the dramatic, something only enhanced by the Titles Artist, Nicola Scott's, energetic work, which can only be a bonus for the kick ass ladies of the BOP.

Overall I was pretty happy with this week, no stinkers, nothing I regret buying, its just a shame that it only took me about five minutes to get through them all.

What am I supposed to do now for the rest of the day?

*sigh*

A More Worthy Opening Day Post

Alright, I reckon I'm getting the hang of this Blog business, at least, I've figured out what most of the buttons do, so I figure its time I presented something a bit more worthy for my opening day other than "Come Back Later".

Well, maybe not worthy, but at least longer...

But what to post about? For the most part I'll be using this space to praise/complain about comics, but since this is Merry Old England we don't get our new releases until Thursday.

Booooo!!

I know, its entirely unfair, but what can a man do other than grin and bare it? Well, I could complain some more but, eh, I don't have the energy. Its my day off, I'm entitled to be lazy.

As fate would have it a convenient alternative to new comics has presented itself, the new solicitations for DC are up and there is always something to grab my attention, be it good or bad...so lets see...ah yes...Green Lantern Corps!!

Or more specifically that Kyle Rayner will be joining the regular cast. Now, due mostly to timing and when I myself started reading comics, Kyle Rayner is basically my boy. I remember, in that long and distant time of my youth...

(well...younger youth...I don't care what Jamie says...I'm not old Damn It!!)

...that the Green Lantern Comic were amongst the first I read. Someone in DC had decided Hal needed to go bat shit crazy, kill everyone and be replaced by a younger, hipper, less experienced Lantern. I realise now there was a fair bit on outrage over this, "Hal was unfairly treated" this, "Kyle is soooo Lame" that, but at the time I didn't even know who Hal was sooooooo...honestly...I didn't much care.

All I cared about was that Kyle Rayner was Green Lantern, his comic amused me, he was awesome in the JLA and his powers were massively entertaining. Kyle Rayner was Green Lantern for me, just as Wally West was the Flash, Tim Drake was Robin, and so on, they were the characters of my generation and I've pretty much stuck with them ever since. All that's changed since is that I've picked up a greater appreciation for those characters that came before them...even if Hal still isn't anywhere near as cool...

But anyways, I deviate, Kyle Rayner is back in the Green Lantern Corps title. I say "back" as I'm pretty sure that's where he was always meant to be, I loved his involvement in the Green Lantern: Recharge Mini Series and looked forward to seeing those solid interactions continue...only they didn't...

Green Lantern Corps began and Kyle was no-where to be seen...

(Well, ok, he wasn't "gone" per say, he was just off in another series, it was even his "own" series, but I lament, it just wasn't where I wanted him to be so...you know...booooo!!)

...no Kyle/Guy verbal jousting, no brotherly interaction, my disappointment could not be measured. As it happens the series has still be really good, Guys characterisation has been solid, the new guys are all entertaining and there hasn't been an issue thus far I've felt let down by. Its a solid series, I would recommend anyone buy it, it just didn't have Kyle.

Which made me sad.

*Frown*

But as I said, he's Back!! So Yaaaay and much rejoicing!! Overall I'm really looking forward to seeing how this series developments, I like all the characters in it, the cast as a whole is looking pretty damn solid with a wide spectrum of personalities to clash and mesh. I love it, good times, they be a rolling.

OH!! Plus...GUY AND ICE!!

Looking forward to that very much thank you, that relationship always amused me, its just too damn sweet!!

Under Impluse Construction

Please come back when I know what I'm doing.

...which maybe a while.
